“I had a beautiful and interesting experience in Gulbene / Latvia, working with children from STAKI kindergarten and seniors from SILTAIS and DZERVES social centres. The collaboration with Latvian and Italian teams was beneficial, showing a good communication between different cultures and we got acquainted with Latvian tradition. We appreciated the hospitality of the hosts who showed us their exhibits and we discovered the creativity and beauty of each work obtained from the recycling of household objects, transforming it into a work of art. I really enjoyed learning how to make a painting with objects from the forest. I found out how important it is for the little ones to work together with the seniors, bringing smiles and joy to their hearts. Thank you to the Latvian team for everything I experienced and learned, it definitely remains an example to follow!”

“I have just returned from a 10 days volunteering activity in Gulbene – Latvia and the surrounding area, where I worked for 3 days with children from Staki kindergarten and with seniors from 2 social centres: Together with us, the Romanian team, there was a team from Italy and the host country, all three collaborating very well in order to share the traditions of their countries of origin and other interesting things: traditional food, national holidays and celebrations, activities that are organized in kindergartens and senior centers, shows or joint activities for leisure in small communities of residence (villages). Personally, I was amazed by the creativity and ingenuity of Latvians, who use all kinds of resources from nature to make various decorations for homes, streets, village centres and institutions. For me, all the activities were interesting, but I liked the most the ones we did with the children outdoors (campfire, walking through the forest, playing with them in the kindergarten yard) or with them, the moments when we worked together indoors (we made cakes and fruit salad, we made small paintings from leaves, cones, acorns, seeds). I also think it was important to see the interaction between children and seniors, which led to the joy of both generations. And before ending this short report, I would like to mention that the Latvian team that took care of all of us was always present with promptness and professionalism, which led to a pleasant and instructive activity, I hope, for the teams from the three countries.”
