« Youth4com » sounded really pleasant to me. I hadn’t got the chance to attend a youth-exchange before, so I didn’t know what was about to happen there, in a foreign coutry. I left, enthusiastic and filled up with energy, with a group of 11 friendly people, they were Cass, Geo, Cristina, Ionut, the two Ioanas, Ana, Alex with Mihai and Gabi- group leaders. Even we didn’t know so well before the project, the next 10 days really got us closer to each other.
Once I arrived there, I found myself surrounded by strangers, but with people of that kind you could never feel alone. Romania, Denmark, Finland and Latvia participated in this exchange. In the next couple of days I was surprised to find out how energetic and passionate can a man be and how many qualities can be discovered in a stranger in less than a week. The exchange took place between the 26th of July and the 4th of august, Denmark taking the host country-role. We had to choose between 4 workshops, such as dancing, percussion, circus and puppetry. We were given’ the possibility to decide freely, depending on our desires and wishes. Sadly you were allowed to choose only one of the 4 workshops. I would’ve attended all of them. I learned here to wake up early in the morning; to have a schedule. We took our breakfast at 8 o’clock and after this we had to start the warm-up, at 9. At 10, the fun part started – 3 hours of intense dancing, juggling, percussion and creation. Even though we had 3 hours of work in the morning, I’ve never felt tired; I even wanted to do more and more.
We, of course, had time to eat after the hard work, where we went one by one to get our food. We sat mixed, wanting to share with others what we’ve done in the meantime. We were given to hourse of free-time that consisted in all the things we wanted so bad to do. There was also a group of guys who went with one of the leaders to swim. At 3 p.m, other 3 hours of work begin, after which we had dinner. The program was quite enjoyable, since we had time for ourselves, too, event though 6 hours a day were spent on workshops. The fact that each country had its class to sleep in, was added to our daily dose of amusement.
The most beautiful part of the project consisted –from my point of view-, in the emotions and the adrenaline before each show. After two days of workshops, every one of us had its role well-known, ready for the show. I will never forget our way to Nykobing, where we took our first performance. We were all nervous and yet full of energy for what was about to happen. We had two shows in Nykobing, on stage, and other two in Stubbekobing, where we also had the school. In Stubbekobing was more dynamic, since we performed on the street, and many people had access to our show.
We had some free time to spend on visits, and a whole day was claimed only for a visit at the North Sea’s beach, in Marielyst. But not the places you see put a mark on you, the landscape is just a wonderful distraction, in a project like this; the experience you gain and the people you talk to surely will. The fact that you spend 7-8-9 days with some strangers, who in the end can be called your friends, will help you in the process of finding yourself and remembering who and what you wanted initially to become. You learn about other cultures, about other’s lifestyle and art. This is what changes you! You leave a youth exchange like this one, with a heart full of regret… the regret everything is over.
