Origami si “frumoasa poveste a unei creatii colective”

Airinei” din Bucuresti,  s-a prezentat joi, 4 aprilie, in cadrul saptamanii  SA STII MAI MULTE, SA FII MAI BUN!

Cum a inceput totul? Ei au luat-o chiar foarte in serios…Au inceput intrebarile: Cum? Ne inveti? Cand?

We received a very nice story in which origami has proven its potential if strengthening and expanding a community. And because A.C.T.O.R. supports and encourages the usage of origami in all types of education, here below is the article sent by Ms. Georgiana Chitu, which assisted the astonishing enthusiasm of the young students:

My hobby became the same as my colleagues’… the beautiful story of a collective creation.

At the Technical High-school of Post and Telecommunication “Gh. Airinei” of Bucharest, Thursday on the 4th of April, during the week “SA STII MAI MULTE, SA FII MAI BUN!”,o gigantic origami swan was made. This special creation got the name of Bella, and is the result of a whole class of students, the class 9 D from the high-school mentioned above.

The swan is made of 15.800 A4 sheets of paper with a height of 1,42 m, and a 3,68 m circumference, 1,17 diameter.

How did it all begin? From an idea.. and a hobby… the one that started this activity is a student of this class, and has a passion for origami 3D models, her name is Bituleanu Larisa. Joking at first, she challenged her classmates to help her create a giant paper swan. They accepted and the questions started flowing: HOW? WILL YOU TEACH US? WHEN? WHERE DO WE GET THE PAPER? And just before an inspection at school, they all came to their teacher and said:

“Teacher, we want do set a new record, beating the record of the students of Lugoj and make an origami model from 10.000 sheets of paper!”OK! was her answer. I will support them even though in the beginning she admitted she was pretty skeptical because I’ve noticed how in the new-coming generations don’t do things to the end, but their enthusiasm might not take the job to an end. These students have proven her wrong, and have proven that if they have a tangible motivation, and if they like what they’re doing  … and if they are supported and encouraged, they can give their best!

We all mobilized: teachers, students, parents… we collected A4 sheets from all the laboratories and school cabinets (written sheets that could end up in the trash can), we brought home, from friends…from everywhere. They started working,  they learned how to fold and to assemble the paper. From 30 students, 27 worked intensively. They were working in the breaks, in the class trying not to get caught, but mostly in the auditorium. I was fascinated by watching them: I saw how they formed a team, how they became best friends… it was a creative process, nice community! Even though these kids knew each other for only a couple of months, in 2-3 weeks they ended up creating a relationship with each other and also with Bella. I’ve seen on their faces, in the last days, when the confection of the swan was coming to an end, the enthusiasm, their pride of what they have made but also their sadness caused by the moments in which they had to separate in order to go home.
