"By the sea we learn"18 -28 .09.07- Portugalia

Portugalia, 18-28 Septembrie.

By the Sea We Learn.

A few days after turning 20, to spend some time in the middle of the ocean, with people you know nothing about, facing waves, wind, cultural, lingvistic barriers and some moments off from the world really teaches you something about what really self-awarness means. About what you are, what your country means for others and how the flaws and cracks of your personality make you that special part of your personal univers of which you cannot became aware if not in a totally different environment. In our city fall down from grey blocks and dust from our shoulders, one cannot imagine that in another place in the world, on the ocean, someone else is keeping the reel, at 4 am in the morning, holding a course he didn’t choose, towards a place which means nothing in that moment with ice cold waves, clear sky and shooting stars. This picture might seem unreal to you but we have been there, in such a moment, scared and happy at the same time. And imagine also that all this journey was an experience in which we have seen the end of a period which no one wants to let go of, the pre-20 years old period, and the beginning of something much more simple and subtle. A certain change that we all the participants of the youth exchange By The Sea We Learn have suffered. We have taken with us the hours spend working on board the ship “N.T.M. Creoula” in which we have rised and gathered the sails, rubbed the deck, polished the bras, the minutes we have sailed along with dolphins, the faces of other people from entire Europe, the seconds of acute intensity in which we felt either overwhelmed, either alive, in the word’s most full meaning, and made from all of these old people with new mentalities. In this ever-changing world, persons with a sense of belonging.
